Continue to Midelt, a town nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges, before heading to Erfoud, the gateway to the Sahara. As you approach Merzouga, the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi desert come into view. Spend the night in a traditional Berber camp, enjoying a camel ride at sunset and a night under the stars.
Dedicate your second day to exploring the Merzouga Desert. Start with a sunrise camel ride over the dunes, followed by a visit to a local Berber family to learn about their traditions and way of life. Explore the desert’s unique landscapes, including fossil sites and the oasis of Merzouga. In the afternoon, relax at your desert camp or take a 4×4 excursion to discover hidden corners of the Sahara. As the sun sets, enjoy traditional Moroccan music and a delicious dinner around the campfire.
After breakfast, depart Merzouga and head to Rissani, a historic town known for its bustling market and ancient ksar (fortified village). Continue through the rugged landscapes of Alnif, a gateway to the Draa Valley, before arriving in Zagora, the gateway to the Sahara’s other iconic desert, Erg Chigaga. Explore the palm groves and visit the famous “Timbuktu 52 Days” sign, a reminder of the ancient caravan routes. Spend the night in a comfortable guesthouse or desert camp.
On your fourth day, travel through the stunning Draa Valley, a lush oasis lined with palm trees and traditional Berber villages. Stop in Agdz to admire the panoramic views of the valley before continuing to Ouarzazate. Visit the Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studios, where many famous movies were filmed. Spend the night in Ouarzazate, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this desert city.
On your final day, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic and well-preserved kasbahs. Explore its ancient streets and learn about its history as a filming location for movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
